Common questions
Who is my electric utility in ZIP 78389?
AEP Texas Central (AEPTC) OR San Patricio Electric Cooperative is the utility that delivers electricity and restores outages in 78389 (Skidmore). You choose a Retail Electric Provider (REP) for your plan and bill. The rate table at the top of this page shows today's lowest 78389 plans at 500, 1,000 and 2,000 kWh, and you can switch through WattKarma (PUCT broker #BR220202) at no cost.
Who do I call when the power goes out?
Match the provider on your bill: AEP Texas 866-223-8508 or SPEC 888-740-2220. Your REP (if any) does not restore poles/wires. Downed line: 911 + electric provider.
How do I start water service when I move into 78389?
Provider varies by street in Skidmore / 78389 (small city, WSC, or unincorporated). Do not assume Corpus Christi 311, Alice, Kingsville, Rockport, or Portland service outside those footprints.
Who handles trash pickup in 78389?
City contract vs private hauler is address-dependent. Confirm with city hall, HOA, or landlord. Multifamily properties often use private haulers.
Who provides natural gas, and what if I smell gas?
CenterPoint Energy (Entex) South Texas is the typical LDC for many Skidmore addresses. Start/transfer: 800-427-7142. Suspected leak: leave immediately, then call 911 and CenterPoint 888-876-5786 from a safe place. Natural gas is not retail-choice like electricity.
Is electricity regulated or competitive here?
AEP Texas Central parcels: competitive REP choice. San Patricio EC members generally cannot shop REPs.
Does Skidmore use Houston or Dallas 311?
No—Coastal Bend communities do not use Houston 311 or Dallas 311. Corpus Christi has its own 311 (361-826-2489 outside city) for Corpus Christi city services—do not assume it covers Skidmore / 78389. Life-threatening emergencies still dial 911.
Which internet providers serve 78389?
Common Coastal Bend options include AT&T Fiber, Spectrum, Frontier, and Sparklight where built; availability thins in rural Duval/Brooks/Jim Hogg/Bee parcels and on barrier islands. Use each provider’s checker with your full street address.
How do I tell competitive AEP wires from a co-op or RUS?
Look at your electric bill logo/payee and ESI ID. AEP Texas delivery bills show the TDU with a separate REP. NEC, SPEC, and RUS bills are from the cooperative or municipal utility (no REP shopping). Match outage numbers to your bill.
