NRG

NRG is a competitive energy parent with several Texas retail names. The Texas retail brands we will list are Reliant, Direct Energy, Green Mountain Energy, Cirro, and NRG. Gexa is not one of them. This page is a comparison entry, not an NRG storefront. Your ZIP decides which NRG-family or non-NRG plans we can actually show.

NRG Texas retail brands — not Gexa.

NRG's Texas retail set on this page is Reliant, Direct Energy, Green Mountain Energy, Cirro, and the NRG name itself. Reliant has been NRG since 2009 (PUCT #10007). We have a comparison page for Reliant. We do not have standalone pages for Direct Energy, Green Mountain Energy, or Cirro, so we do not invent those URLs.

Gexa Energy is not an NRG brand. Gexa is NextEra Energy, acquired in June 2005, PUCT #10027. Older copy on this site that grouped Gexa with NRG was wrong. We corrected it on September 10, 2026. If you want Gexa, open Gexa Energy — that is a different parent.

TXU is Vistra. Champion is Constellation via Calpine (closed January 7, 2026). Frontier is NextEra with Gexa. None of those are NRG sisters. We only link true siblings here.

A parent with several retail names can still file different EFLs. Do not assume an NRG-family plan matches another NRG-family plan at 500, 1,000, or 2,000 kWh.

Shop the NRG EFL — not a typed rate.

In Texas, a NRG plan must publish an Electricity Facts Label. The EFL shows an average price at 500 kWh, 1,000 kWh, and 2,000 kWh. The 1,000 kWh column is the number most ads lean on. It is not always the number you will pay in a mild month or a cooling-season month.

At 500 kWh, base charges and minimum-usage fees can dominate — apartments and low-AC months live here. At 1,000 kWh, a usage credit can make a plan look cheaper than it is when you miss the credit band. At 2,000 kWh, Texas summer, those credits can dilute. Read all three columns, the term length, and the early termination fee before you enroll.

Ohio does not issue a Texas EFL. If you are shopping Ohio, the honest benchmark is the Price to Compare on the utility bill — not a NRG ¢/kWh typed on this page. Maryland allows supply choice, but online shopping on this site is not fully wired. We do not invent a NRG enrollment there.

We will not publish a sample NRG rate here. Live ¢/kWh require your ZIP. Method last reviewed September 10, 2026.

WattKarma is a licensed broker — not the NRG website.

This is not a NRG landing page and not a cloned sales site. WattKarma is a licensed energy broker: Texas PUCT #BR220202, Ohio PUCO #22-104905E, and Maryland MD PSC #IR-5469. We compare the retail electric providers that actually appear in your ZIP catalog.

If you enroll through us, the provider pays us a commission. You are not charged a broker fee to compare. That commission does not change the published EFL price or the contract you sign. Our incentive is to show real options — not to push NRG or to hide NRG.

NRG may be in your results. NRG may be missing. If it is missing, we show who is there instead of inventing a NRG card or a sample ¢/kWh. That is the honest shop. Enter a ZIP or call 855-952-WATT (9288).

A comparison page is not a promise that we always have NRG, that NRG is cheapest, or that the parent company means a better or worse rate. Ownership is a fact. Price is a ZIP result. Delivery and outages stay with the TDU — Oncor, CenterPoint, AEP Texas, TNMP, or LP&L in Texas — not with NRG and not with WattKarma.

Family is not a single rate.

When an NRG-branded or Reliant plan appears, read that plan's EFL. Direct Energy, Green Mountain Energy, and Cirro may or may not be in the same ZIP catalog. If a name is missing, we do not invent a card for it.

Green positioning on a Green Mountain offer still has to survive the three average-price columns. A Cirro or Direct Energy term product still has a cancellation fee. Shop the label.

True NRG siblings on this site.

We only link sister brands that share the same parent company. We do not invent a family.
